![]() Liberty Alert December 6, 2006 How You Can Help Save Christmas In response to the attacks on Christmas this year, we have heard from people who are taking a stand for Christmas in their communities. Paul Goertz, a construction worker in Seattle has organized a "Save Christmas" Rally, to be held in a Seattle park on December 9th. Mr. Goertz wants to raise awareness and public support for preserving America's Christmas traditions. A network of university students has created a list of "10 Ways to Celebrate Christmas on Campus" and is encouraging others to spread the joy of Christmas. Students at the University of Texas are poking fun at the Christmas censors by showing how the ACLU might display a nativity scene. The display substitutes figures like Lenin, Marx and liberal Democrat Nancy Pelosi for the traditional figures. These are just a few examples of how anyone can help raise awareness and save Christmas before it is absorbed into a generic "holiday" season! Our attorneys are staying very busy this Christmas season due to many issues including widespread censorship in the public schools. Just this morning a parent reported that their child's school is not allowed to have a Christmas tree because it is religious, but they can have Santa Claus, Hanukah or Kwaanza symbols. The school is misinformed. A Christmas tree has been considered secular by the U.S. Supreme Court, and a school can legally have a mixture of religious and secular symbols. See the legal memo posted on our web site for more details. Some liberal secularists even make the outrageous claim that "Merry Christmas" is "hate speech!" If we don't stop the tide of censorship of religious speech, then Christians will eventually face punishment for speaking out on all issues of public concern.
